Berlin: Tempelhof Airport

One of the earliest commercial airports in the world. It was closed as a commercial airfield on 30 October 2008 and hasn’t handled regular flights since then. A landmark of Berlin’s history: from its role in the Berlin Airlift (1948–49) supplying West Berlin during the Soviet blockade — to its closure and transformation into public space.
